At the Malaysian launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the company did an auction for three very limited edition models of the flagship smartphone. With an opening bid of RM5,000, one of the three devices went for a whopping RM45,000 – the other two units were sold at pretty high prices too.
As mentioned, the first unit of the limited edition Galaxy Note 9 was sold at RM45,000. The other two, on the other hand, went for RM35,000 each. Collectively, Samsung raised a whopping RM115,000 from the auction.
That’s a lot of money, and Samsung mentioned that all proceeds from the auction will be channeled to the Ministry of Education. The funds will go to the company’s Smart School initiative, which aims to help students “refine their interest and talents in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).”
So what makes the limited edition Galaxy Note 9 so special? Well, it’s really just a standard 512GB model, but it comes with a gold plated cover done by Samsung Malaysia itself. For the sake of comparison, the regular 512GB Note 9 retails at RM4,599 – it’s really quite impressive how the limited edition model managed to fetch up to RM45,000.
